From Gerald R. Lucas

Autumn in the Chapel at Callaway Gardens, 12/30/19.

My long-time friend—we met in graduate school—Walter stopped by yesterday for an overnight stay on his way to Tampa. He does this about twice a year: comes through Macon on his way south to see our mutual friend Tom. It’s cool because we can geek out about science fiction and Mailer.

This time I was able to help with some upgrades and fixes to his MacBook Pro. He left it with me to install a new trackpad. That means he’ll be coming back next week.

I started watching The Witcher today. It was an OK start. I wonder if any fantasy tv series is going to ever be as good as Game of Thrones? I’m not sure I got everything I was supposed to, but it was interesting enough to try a couple of more episodes.

I’m still upgrading this site with old stuff. It’s fun to revive old materials and see how insightful (and insipid) my old writing is. There’s no way I’ll finish before the semester starts, but I’m making a dent. I think my best stuff is (was) on Medium, so that’s what I’m mostly concentrating on.

I think I have an ear infection. I hope not. After last-month’s sinus infection, I’m wondering if there’s not something else going on. I hope not.

Today’s photo is from a recent family overnighter at Callaway Gardens. The Gardens has a holiday light show that’s not too interesting, but the gardens themselves are great. We had a beautiful afternoon to explore. One of the coolest spots is the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel. We stopped there last, after Henry spent some energy at the playground.
