Some Watch Time covid-19: day 166 | US: GA | info | act

This pandemic has affected my health. I have to begin eating right and not drinking so much. I started today, so let’s see how long I go before something derails my efforts again.

Autumn and Henry went to see the grandparents, so I rewatched Zemeckis’ Contact this afternoon, and it’s pretty cheesy. I can’t really tell if Jodie Foster is a good actor or not. There are pretty good moments, especially during the interrogation scene, but she doesn’t do levity well. The scene of her teaching children at the end is painful.

It does seem odd that the writers decided to eliminate the other four travelers. I see the practicality of it, but one scientist’s account is certainly less credible that five. The “did you love your dad, then prove it” line is cheap. I’m also not sure that the ending is very satisfying: she is not vindicated, nor does she seem to gain much of an insight into anything.

I also watched the first episode of Lovecraft Country and really enjoyed it. The production values are excellent as is the cast (I’m a new fan of Jurnee Smollett), and the portrayal of Jim Crow whites is cringe-worthy—more frightening than the monsters. This promises to be a fun ride.
