Proxmox is the 💩 covid-19: day 676 | US: GA | info | act

After an initial bad start, I was finally able to get Proxmox VE up and running on my new homelab toy. After receiving and installing my 1TB NVMe drive, I installed Proxmox and tried to get my first virtual machine running. For whatever reason, I just couldn’t get anything to work, especially virtual machines—the very thing I wanted to get to run. I just kept getting the “NoVNC” error, so I gave up for the night. I went to bed thinking I’d put Ubuntu server on the machine and try to figure out Docker.

The next day, I reinstalled Proxmox after enabling hardware virtualization in the BIOS. Proxmox installed quickly, and I went through the process of making my first virtual machine with an Elementary OS ISO. Guess what? It worked! Now, either it was the BIOS change or I actually started VNC correctly this time. So, if you’re getting the “NoVNC” error, try hitting the Start button on the console. I couldn’t have overlooked that the first time, right? Maybe.

After Elementary OS, I installed Ubuntu Server on another virtual machine. OK, this is cool. This afternoon, I followed most of this tutorial to get a backup Pihole installation in a small container. Check out the big brain on me. How cool is that!? I’m thinking about virtualizing all of my server needs. This is so cool. All those nerds on YouTube were right.

As I said, Proxmox is the 💩! I can’t wait to see what else I can do with this baby.
