Wow, that was fast! The Asahi Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4 8-element already got here from Japan. The delivery date was next Tuesday. Color me impressed. Thank DHL.

Without further ado, here are the first shots, both wide-open, of course:


And, wow! again. I missed the focus on a couple—f/1.4 is a challenge—but when I got it—I got it. This thing is super sharp, and the bokeh is lovely.


This one is with available light, and it’s not even as close as this lens will focus. The color, too, seems excellent, maybe a bit on the warm side, which I like. Here’s the requisite Buddha shot:


Again super sharp and just nice. I’m beginning to see, even on this overcast day, that this 8-element Takumar from the mid-sixties is pretty dang special.
