So, the sun came out for about ten minutes yesterday afternoon, after raining for the first part of the day. I spent most of the day reading (after an interminable faculty meeting), and when I saw the sun, I grabbed the SL and the Vivitar 2.8/28 for a couple of test photos.
Wow, not bad at all. The color is pretty amazing, and it seems to render a bit warm—which I prefer—and it’s pretty sharp wide open. The sun makes all the difference—check out the cool flair on the bird feeder example. I was even able to do a quick comparison with the Zuiko 2.8/28 after I lost the sun.
Which do you like better? Besides some beer missing in the second shot, I like the Zuiko better. It’s sharper and the bokeh is nicer, softer. Still, the Viv is no slouch. I still need to get the tripod in on the action.
Later, I captured similar shots as above with the Zuiko. Lovely color and sharpness, and I think the bokeh is where the two lenses really differ, and the Zuiko might be a tad more contrasty. Oh, and I don’t think the Zuiko vignettes as much as the Viv. Both are very good, but subjectively, I like the Zuiko a bit better.
