I finally received my adapter for my latest lens: the Olympus Zuiko 2.8/28 OM. This is a lens I might have owned at one time and just gave to Goodwill along with a Zuiko 1.8/50 lens and an SLR. I don’t know what I was thinking. OK, I was doing the minimalism thing, but getting rid of a camera is pretty extreme for me. It’s a kit I had since high school that was in mint condition, and I just ditched it. Dumb. Well, for penance, I’m getting the lenses back, starting with this one.
Now, I say I “think” I had this 2.8/28, but it might have been a 3.5/28. I’m just not sure, since these details meant nothing to me until they no longer mattered. Still, why not go faster this time? Here are the first images from the lens on the SL.
Pretty nice. This guy focuses at .3 meters, so I can get pretty close. It’s not the fastest at f/2.8, but it’s OK. The IQ is good—very neutral—and it’s decently sharp. When I get close to the subject is when I seem to get better results. The first image of Autumn and Henry crafting was literally the first one I took with the lens, and it’s a pretty good candid. I do like the 28mm focal length.
I think this’ll be a fun lens to have in the bag. It looks great on the SL, and it is easy to use. The focus is smooth and the aperture clicks securely into place. It may be the easiest to use SLR lens I have currently. It’ll be fun to see how it compares to the Vivitar 2.8/28 I should get sometime next week, if Seattle Goodwill ever deigns to ship it.
