Rime Work and More covid-19: day 529 | US: GA | info | act
When I’m not careful, the days catch up with me. I got carried away with my posting of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner that I started last week. It is a lot of fun—not only coming up with the codes and formatting for the poem, but doing the research for various takes on analysis and interpretation. There’s a lot out there, and I have barely scratched the surface, yet the good thing about the way I’m doing it here is that I can add more at any time—maybe the next time I teach Coleridge. I need to move on to the next poem. Maybe go back to “Ozymandias” or get to one of Shelley’s or Keats’ odes.
I had a follow-up with my GP yesterday—post-colonoscopy. I guess all is well. No cure for aging yet.
Not much else to report. Giles sent a mock-up of Lipton’s which makes me want to get back to that, but I really need to the my short story essay to Phil. I have been actively composing it, so I think when I sit down to write, it won’t take too long.
My students have begun editing LitWiki. Tenuously. We have a workshop tomorrow, so I think they’ll get better. I know it’s a new experience for all of them, so baby steps.
Finally, I finished the four novellas that make up the first Murderbot story arch. I’ve moved on to Becky Chambers’ The Long Way to a Small. I’m already about 20% into it, and it’s pretty good. Her character interaction reminds me of a 90’s action movie with the rag-tag team of scientists, like Twister—you know, overly cleaver and therefore cheesier than whiz on Ritz. Still, I think the main plot is coming together now, and I am interested, so I guess my summer of sf women continues.
