From Gerald R. Lucas
On my walk this morning I saw a squirrel dart into the road right under an approaching Honda Civic. I didn’t see it, but the bumpcrack sound confirmed a hit. The oblivious car passed, leaving the fallen animal, it’s front legs shuddering like a toppled wind-up toy. So quickly comes death. One minute you’re a healthy squirrel running around collecting nuts, and the next thing you’re a carcass in the middle of the road, emptied by a swooping death. That’s it. That’s what we all come to in the end.
