What if I started my next new media class with Sugata Mitra’s TEDtalk “Build a School in the Cloud” to show what the message of new media is, and then use that as the basis for their approach to the class. I’ve tried a similar approach on the past with little success. I’d really like for each student to discover something that interests her to really explore over the course of the semester.
I don’t know; maybe I’m worrying about this whole thing too much. Students just don’t seem to like this course, and I think they should like “New Media” being New Media and Communications majors.
