Shakespeare’s Lament in The Pentangle

1992 Pentangle Poem.png

A page from The Pentangle, the literary magazine published at Manatee Community College, Spring 1992.

My sonnet, “Shakespeare’s Lament,” was chosen for publication. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that I knew most of the editorial board. Still, looking though the magazine, I can’t help but be impressed with the quality of the publication. Not only is the work good, but the magazine itself is printed on good paper and the cover is a strong card stock. My 22-year-old copy was in almost perfect shape.

I can’t really comment on the quality of my sonnet, but I can say that I was proud to be a part of such a great publication. My friends Erich, Vicki, and Christi knew what they were doing. I should also give thanks to Shakespeare for letting me borrow (plagiarize?) his Sonnet 130.
