Arundel

I’ve seen quite a few castles and palaces during my visits to the United Kingdom, but I don’t think any have been quite as a nice as Arundel Castle in West Sussex.

The castle has been around for almost a thousand years; it was founded in 1067 after William did some conquering. Since the 11th century, it has been the seat of the Duke of Norfolk, and the castle was added to over the years to become the impressive structure it is today. Since the castle is still the home of royalty, the insides were off-limits to photography. Right, whatever. The rooms were impressive, though. Everything from the chapel to the great hall to the rooms made especially for the visit of Queen Victoria in 1846. It turns out that even though these rooms were beautiful, the Queen needed more room. She was given one of the impressive set of suites on a higher floor. Seriously, one of these rooms was larger than my whole apartment was in graduate school. It’s good to be the King Duke.

After Arundel, we were off to Stonehenge…
