Shall I compare thee[2] to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.[3]
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.[4]
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,[5]5
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;[6]
And every fair from fair[7] sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,[8]
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,10
Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade,[9]
When in eternal lines[10] to Time thou grow’st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
