Mailer’s Grave

Someone had left an almost-full bottle of bourbon at his grave.

On the way out of Provincetown, Carol Holmes Alpern and I stopped to pay our respects to Norman Mailer. We were the only ones there. The sky was overcast, and Pilgrim Monument stood sentry. Others had obviously been there, having left this and that as tributes to the fallen warrior. We didn’t stay long, and Carol wept a bit. Farewell, Norman.
