Forum Journal and Discussion Requirement
The forum-journal is an essential part of your work in this course. It serves as a research and process journal where you will document your engagement with the course material, reflect on your progress, and interact with your peers. This assignment emphasizes the importance of writing as a process and offers a space to experiment, analyze, and refine your ideas in a collaborative digital environment.
note: This journal is more than an assignment; it’s a tool for intellectual discovery and collaboration. Approach it as a space for experimentation and growth, both as a writer and as a participant in digital discourse.
Purpose
This assignment is designed to help you not only process and synthesize what you are learning but also to practice writing in a public, collaborative digital space—skills that are central to our course objectives. The journal has two primary objectives:
- To help you develop critical insights into digital writing and publishing by reflecting on your reading, research, and project work.
- To foster a sense of community and collaboration through thoughtful discussion and peer engagement.
Requirements
Weekly Entries
- Post one substantive journal entry per week (approximately 300–500 words) on the course forum.
- Your posts should focus on your intellectual and creative processes, including reflections on readings, challenges encountered, project updates, and ideas for further development.
Engagement with Course Themes
- Your entries should critically engage with course topics and materials, connecting them to your personal research, creative work, or broader digital writing practices.
- Integrate specific references to readings, discussions, or external resources that support your analysis.
Peer Interaction
- Respond to at least two classmates’ posts each week with thoughtful comments, questions, or constructive feedback. Your responses should advance the discussion, offering meaningful engagement rather than surface-level agreement.
Focus on Process
- Use your entries to explore and articulate your writing process. This might include brainstorming, analysis, or experimentation with digital tools and techniques. Reflect on challenges, breakthroughs, and how your understanding evolves over time.
Professional and Thoughtful Presentation
- While this is an informal space for exploration, posts should still demonstrate attention to detail, clarity, and coherence. Write with a professional tone appropriate for graduate-level work.
Multimedia and Resources
- Enrich your posts with multimedia elements like links, images, or embedded content when relevant. This adds depth to your journal and encourages you to think about how digital platforms shape communication.
Final Reflection
At the end of the semester, you will write a 1–2 page meta-reflection summarizing your key insights from the journal and the discussions. Reflect on how your understanding of digital writing has evolved, what challenges you overcame, and how the journal supported your growth.
Assessment Criteria
Your forum-journal will be evaluated based on:
- Critical Engagement: Demonstrates meaningful reflection and engagement with course themes and materials.
- Consistency and Timeliness: Regular and timely posts, with substantive weekly contributions.
- Collaborative Engagement: Quality and depth of interactions with peers’ posts.
- Clarity and Presentation: Posts are clear, coherent, and professional, with attention to detail.
- Use of Multimedia: Incorporates relevant media and links to enhance content where appropriate.
Timeline
- Begin your journal during the first week of class.
- Posts and comments are due each Tuesday by 23:59.
