Mary Donna Rahe was born in Cincinnati, OH at Good Samaritan Hospital on April 13, 1944 at 9:45 am. She was awarded a Miraculous Medal, since she was a small child (6 lb., 14¾ oz.) and almost died of dehydration. She is the third child of Oscar and Gertrude Rahe. She has two brothers, Denis and Ronnie (d. 1978), and a younger sister, Gail.

Early Life

The Rahe family lived in a large house, 565 Purcell Avenue, owned by her mother’s family, the Hahns, until Donna finished fifth grade and graduated from Holy Family school in 1956. The Hahns’ decided to sell the Purcell house, so the Rahes moved to 413 Plum Street where Donna lived until she married.[a]

She took the name “Elizabeth”—her mother’s middle name—at her confirmation.[b]
