Budget Cuts

I just learned that the State of Georgia has cut $68 million from the university system's budget. Our president, Dr. David Bell, informed the faculty today via email that Macon State College will have to shoulder $680,000 of this burden slung upon us right in the middle of the fall semester. According to the Macon Telegraph, the university system must produce about 38 percent of the state's entire savings, a disproportionate and confusing amount, considering the university system's rapid growth in the past years. MSC, according to Bell, will try to compensate by reducing staff through attrition and early retirement before taking more drastic measures. There go my hopes for a raise this year.
