Well, I did it. I am taking the plunge into real medium format with the purchase of a Pentax 67 📷. I bought it from a nice guy on eBay, complete with the legendary Takumar 105mm f/2.4. The seller and I had a bit of a correspondence before I slapped down the virtual plastic, and he is including four rolls of Kodak Portra 400 and some extra batteries. The camera looks clean, and the seller said he never had any issues with it, but anything 30–40 years old may develop issues—especially if it’s jarred around during delivery. I’m glad I can still get it worked on, if need be. I am excited.
While it was a pricy purchase, I think I got a decent deal, considering my research over the last couple of weeks. I need to hold off getting accessories for it—like filters and a grip—until I decide I like it and can actually use it. With each shot probably costing between $2 and $3, I’m going to need a whole new degree of Zen when using it.
Speaking of grips: I found a dude on Instagram who makes these gorgeous wooden grips for the 67. I’m sure to give him some business. Maybe suggest to someone that a grip could be a great Father's Day or birthday present. I like this deep red finish.
