Upgrade! covid-19: day 634 | US: GA | info | act

Well, it took some time and anxiety, but I managed to update this web site to the LTS version of MediaWiki, that’s 1.35.5. It was pretty straightforward, and only the skin gave me issues, but I was expecting that. Therefore, I didn’t panic when I got errors, but after a little command-line tweaking with composer, I was good-to-go.

I have used MediaWiki for several years now, and I have yet to get tired of it. I suspect the reason is that it offers me plenty of novel uses—itself like a programming language. I know that wiki software is not necessarily the correct solution for personal web sites, but it works for me. In this case, there’s always something to tweak and make new, so it keeps me interested.

I’m tempted to upgrade to the latest version of MW, but there’s really no need for now since it’s running the long-term-support version of the software. I love it when things work. I shouldn’t push my luck.

The day is as cold, wet, and sloppy as an aunt’s kiss, so I’m unable to run. I think I’ll just start drinking.
