Asahi Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.8 M42

This lens is made like a tank—a smooth-as-vaseline focus throw and an all metal body make it a pleasure to use. The aperture dial clicks into half-stops and is close to the camera body, so it is not easily knocked. The images are stunning, even wide-open. It’s sharp and renders a buttery smooth bokeh which feels Japanese to me, closer to Canon than to Zeiss, if that makes sense. The images I get remind me a lot of my Canon days, but more unique. Color reproduction is also excellent. I like this lens so much, I may start a Takumar collection.
