This is my base 50mm, by which I judge all others. Leica M mount. This lens is a testament to the fine engineering that goes into Leica lenses, and why they command such high prices. This lens proves the cliché: you get what you pay for. Yes, other nifty-fifties are very capable, but this is like driving a BMW over a Toyota: both cars will get you there, but one just adds that nuance that brings more joy to your experience. It’s the $100 bottle of wine over the $20—the audiophile system over the consumer-grade. I am never disappointed with the results from this lens, and it will always be the one I grab when I need predictable and stellar results.
