{{dc|I}} {{start|purchased this near-mint specimen from a dealer in Japan,}} and I’m glad I did. It looks great on the SL, a compact black and white lens with a big yellow eye. The focus is pretty smooth, but the aperture is tight. No worries there, as it will spend most of its time on f/1.4. Even wide-open, it’s pretty sharp and the bokeh is lovely—unique and painterly. It has a classical rendering, but is the contrast is higher than I expected, and it makes nice flares. This lens has been dubbed the “Japanese Summilux,” and while I’m pretty certain a real Leica Summilux would be nicer, I have no complaints with what this Canon can do at a tenth the price.

Canon 50mm f/1.4 LTM “Japanese Summilux”

I purchased this near-mint specimen from a dealer in Japan, and I’m glad I did. It has a classical rendering; the contrast is higher than I expected, and it makes nice flares. This lens has been dubbed the “Japanese Summilux,” and while I’m pretty certain a real Leica Summilux would be nicer, I have no complaints with what this Canon can do at a tenth the price.
