New Orleans, 2009[1]

If you’ve been following my posts over the last couple of days, you know I just returned from New Orleans. I have finally made it though all of my photos (well those of Autumn are yet to go), and I have posted them to my New Orleans gallery.

Within the gallery, I have separated food and drink into the various places that stood out, namely Emeril’s NOLA, Café du Monde, and the Napoleon House. There’s also a gallery for random food and drink shots. By far, my favorite dining experience was from our first night at Emeril Lagasse’s restaurant NOLA. NOLA is what a good restaurant should be: moderate prices, excellent service, intimate atmosphere, and awesome food. Autumn had the shrimp and grits, and I had what our waiter recommended: boneless fried chicken served over bourbon-mashed sweet potatoes and green beans. Both were superb. Autumn even had a chocolate torte for dessert.

I also included a seperate gallery for the couple of HDR images I took of St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square. I should have done some more HDR shots, since I carted the tripod around for half the day. Next time.

Last, but certainly not least, are my random shots of the French Quarter. This is my largest gallery, and if you’ve ever been to New Orleans, you know why: the people, the architecture, the joi de vivre. Bourbon Street. Even though I’m not particularly a fan of this famous party street, we found ourselves drawn here, like a moth to flame. Photographic opportunities abound. Bourbon Street is human desire made manifest — where we can all gaze, taste, smell, and be overwhelmed. It’s cheap and profound. It smells like pee. No trip to NOLA is complete without a stroll down Bourbon Street.

Oh, and for those of you with insomnia, I posted my conference paper. Enjoy. And sleep tight.
