We sure are getting close! We have drywall finished and brick started on the sound shed, and it’s looking good. The backyard is a mess—a refuse bin was also delivered earlier, so I guess I need to get to work on the scrap pile—but progress is being made. Soon, finishes will be installed. We already have a ceiling fan and Hue bulbs on the way. My new desk and chair arrived a couple of days ago, and I have them set up with the iMac in the house at present. It’s nice to have a full-sized computer at an actual desk to use.
I’ve been pretty impressed at these construction crews. They are as efficient as a colony of honey bees: buzzing around all purposeful and doing great work. I assume that since the drywall guys looked like the did the final sanding today, that the finishing touches can begin inside, like electrical fixtures, HVAC, and concrete staining. I think I will be doing the latter, so I’m psyched to get started. Currently, I like the desert amber stain, though the process looks messy.
Oh, and I’m working on securing an old computer rack that was purchased for me when I first got to Macon State back in the early aughts. It’s a half-sized rack that housed a number of computers over the years, the last ones being a couple of Apple Xserves. When they finally died, we didn’t replace them with anything, and the server rack has just been sitting in the campus server room not doing anyone any good. I intend to reclaim it (I believe it is mine) for my two tower servers, my Dell Precision T7910 and my 2009 Power Mac—to mitigate the fan sounds from the Dell. And I have space to add some actual rack components, if I wanted. I may try to get a big UPS. Even though the rack is half-sized, it is still a bulky chap, so I’m not quite sure where it will live, but I’ll work it out.
