Let’s Dance

Let’s Dance

Yesterday, I had the privilege, once again, of photographing Laura and Daniel. This time, instead of their wedding, they were dancing.

A few weeks ago, I offered to take some portraits on Facebook. Laura has been working on a web site that features their dancing, and they needed some photos. I was glad to help, though I had never done anything like that before. I was not sure I had an appropriate lens for the job, but the 50mm f/1.4 worked out very well as soon as I ditched the strobe. I think a 70-200mm might have been better, but I was pretty pleased with over 100 images from the shoot! Pretty darn good.

It was a real treat to watch them dance: they are comfortable with each other, and that really shows in their elegance. They love to dance. They love each other. I hope to show that in the photos I took. Check out the gallery and judge for yourself.

Just took a quick look at the gallery. Looks like it worked out just fine with the 50mm. And their passion and movement does come through in many of the photos. Well done.

Thanks, Jim. They were fun to photograph.

    Agreed on the “well done.”

Have to say: I feel the portraits and details shots are superior — until you get to the last set (with Laura in pants), when the less formal clothing and attitude goes with the less formal background.

And, of course, you’re all warmed up and comfortable with each other!

Can’t wait to see what you do with these two on a set, with some strobes and Pocket Wizards…;)

Thanks. Yes, a studio space would be nice, though I worked with what I had there pretty well. Thank goodness for the big windows and plenty of light.
