Howard Rheingold’s latest prognostications about emergent economies of the Internet sounds very similar to Sterling’s networked world in “Maneki Neko.” Rheingold suggests that “pervasive mobile communications, combined with always-on Internet connections, will produce new kinds of ad-hoc social groups.” Sounds like this could get you in trouble with the MPAA and other capitalists that are still stuck to the atom when everyone else has moved to the bit.
